After traveling to the center of the Earth, Sean Anderson, now 17, has been at the usual teen schemes lately. His latest crime lands him to finding something extraordinary, a key to a chunk of land in the Pacific Ocean. Sean teams up with his stepfather, Hank, to get there, and they meet an overeager chopper pilot, and his teenage daughter, to get to Sean's grandfather, Alexander, only to discover the mysterious island.

Oh, here is a song to make your leg feel better.<br/><br/>Was this thing supposed to be in 3D? I have only seen it on TV, but it definitely has staged awkward shots. That stupid throw the berries at my pulsating Pecs, "feed them", comes to mind, looks like it's just here for some nonexistent 3D, it comes offjust creepy, disturbing, too. This is totally pointless.<br/><br/>The story line isn't Jules Verne worthy. I take issue with fire melting rocks surrounding you in water and you are not boiled like a lobster. An island that breaks apart on a cycle and reappears with a stone city enacted? What Hogwarts magic is this? This isn't even a good comic book story. <br/><br/>My guess, preteens would enjoy it, adults could sit through it, this movie is just too much broken dysfunction family and it's all fixed by this yawn, it's too heavy handed, in your face with this, with a fantasy movie barely intruding on that.<br/><br/>"So, who's up for an adventure ", not me with this franchise. I rateda 5, that is generous, the acting is not bad given the material. your kids could be watching worse.
Journey 2: The Mysterious Island is the 'sequel' of Journey to the Centre of Earth (starring Brendan Fraser). Actually, I really don't know why they consider it a sequel because the story is completely different – the only similarities are the author of the books in which the films were based on (Jules Verne) and the character of Sean Anderson that appears in both movies. I also found interesting that many people didn't know it was related to the other movie.<br/><br/>What we have here is a film that follows the same scheme of its predecessor – a lot of CGI and 3D effects, amazing and colorful scenarios, silly humor and nothing more. Journey 2 is a movie for all ages - specially the kids - so don't expect violent sequences or sex scenes with your favorite stars. <br/><br/>The plot is traditional and there is obviously those parallel stories - like the boy Sean(Josh Hutcherson) who falls in love with the charming Khailani (Vanessa Hudgens) and his relationship with his mother's boyfriend, Hank – played by Dwayne 'The Rock' Johnson who shows us that the 'tough guys' can also be funny, charismatic and do movies that they don't have to kill a hundred people. <br/><br/>So, are you thinking about taking your kids to the movies? Well, take them to watch Journey 2: The Mysterious Island - they will be thrilled by it.<br/><br/>But, even if you don't have any kids, watch it. Who said that adults have only to watch serious and artistic movies? Sometimes a little bit of unpretentious fun is necessary in life - and this movie provides it (at least for me it did).
This adventure strands Johnson's famously animated features in eyebrow jail, and squanders his outsized charisma and gift for winking self-deprecation in a thankless worried-stepfather role. It doesn't call for much, beyond a lot of muscles and an ever-present look of concern for his whiny stepson.
It is considered a sequel to <a href="/title/tt0373051/">Journey to the Center of the Earth (2008)</a> (2008)the character of Sean Anderson is in both films, but the story is completely different with a whole new adventure so you don't have to see the first one to understand this one. Yes. A short called "Daffy's Rhapsody" is shown along with the movie in theaters. It takes the 1950 Capitol Record song "The Daffy Duck Rhapsody", sung by legendary Mel Blanc, and puts animation to it. Coincidentally, the short is falling on Daffy Duck's 75th anniversary,the character debuted in 1937. (1) The Mysterious Island by Jules Verne, (2) Gulliver's Travels by Jonathan Swift, and (3) Treasure Island by Robert Louis Stevenson. The three books all pertain to islands, and all three of the books shown in the film contain a partial map within the first few pages of the books. When the maps are placed on top of each other (with the compass points lined up to north) and a light is shone from beneath, the full map and coordinates of Verne's "Mysterious Island" are revealed.
